Patients eligible for a flu vaccination under the NHS 2019/20

The injected flu vaccine is offered free of charge on the NHS to people who are at risk. This is to help protect them against catching flu and developing serious complications.

You should have the flu vaccine if you:

  • are 65 years old or over
  • are aged six months to under 65 years in clinical risk groups
  • all children aged two to three years or old) on 31 August 2019
  •  are pregnant
  •  have certain medical conditions
  •  are living in a long-stay residential care home or other long-stay care facility
  •  a carer in receipt of  carer’s allowance, or you are the main carer for an elderly or disabled person whose welfare may be at risk if you fall ill
  • You may also be able to have the flu vaccine at your GP surgery if you’re a frontline health or social care worker employed by a:
  1. registered residential care/nursing home
  2. registered homecare organisation
  3. hospice
  • The community nursing team will be vaccinating housebound patients as in previous years.
  • If you usually have a flu vaccination or are now in any of the groups above, and you have not had an invite sent to you by the end of October, please ring the surgery to enquire about your vaccination
